Grease Interceptor Sizing
Join us in September to review grease interceptors! Our presenter, Tyler Ismert, will be breaking down IPC Chapter 10 on grease interceptor code and comparing hydro mechanical versus gravity style grease interceptors. He will demonstrate how code calls out only two basic sizing methods. Either they focus on flow rate or liquid volume to size a grease interceptor, which can lead to undersizing or oversizing. The Grease Production Sizing Method considers both flow rate and grease production to determine the capacity of the interceptor and its recommended pump out frequency. A correctly sized grease interceptor reduces maintenance costs for restaurants as well as the chance of a messy and costly clog/backup. Right sizing is critical in choosing the correct grease interceptor.
Tyler is a Territory Manager for a Kansas based manufacturer, Schier Products. Schier Products manufactures and specializes in grease interceptors. Since Tyler was a kid, he has been in the plumbing environment. He grew up in his father’s plumbing supply house, started in Kansas City in 1980. From sweeping floors in the warehouse to making deliveries and selling plumbing products on the parts counter, Tyler worked there throughout high school. Tyler graduated from the University of Missouri, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing. While attending college in Columbia, MO, Tyler took his wholesale experience to Plumb Supply Company, a local plumbing wholesaler, and worked part time in the commercial sales office submitting and quoting local jobs. Tyler's job at Schier allows him to create partnerships with engineers, contractors, distributors, end users and authorities having jurisdiction. He has extensive experience with grease interceptors, the standards that govern them and the codes that adopt those standards.
Tyler's overall focus at Schier is creating solutions for the restaurant industry by correctly sizing grease interceptors based upon flow rate and grease production sizing. He manages and works to expand distribution across the U.S. and Canada with personal calls to distributors, engineers, contractors, restaurant owners and municipalities. Tyler also manages plumbing sales representative organizations throughout the U.S. and Canada to help support local customers.
